Quick Tour of AP French Online
back
|
AP French Online is organized around a series of two-week lessons, each presenting a topic related to francophone civilization. Themes are developed through the six main pages that make up the AP French Online class website. Each of the six pages is a focal point for one or more skill areas emphasized in the course.
Yes! The entire course is in French! A little extra explanation during the first few lessons, along with some translation of instructions, helps students quickly become familiar with how the class functions. Repetition of many learning activities provides a certain predictability, while the changing content of the course and the variety of Internet resources used keep interest high.
Below you will find screen shots and descriptions of how the following pages of the site serve students in their French learning endeavor:

1. Bienvenue !
Students enter the course through the page Bienvenue !. An image and a few key questions introduce the theme students will examine over a two-week period.

The link devoirs à rendre opens a table outlining assignments due and how to submit them. Students can follow these links from any page on the site, so vital information is always just a click away!
|
|
Other features on the Bienvenue page:
- The poll Du bon français gets students thinking about the grammar review topic as they compare the structure of English with that of French and choose between two sentences, one representing authentic French usage, the other a typical learner error.
- A vous de vous exprimer leads into the composition topic students will develop for the current theme.
- The content of parole du jour changes each time students open this page, presenting them with a new idiomatic expression or common collocation. About 50 expressions are included in the rotation so students are exposed to each expression multiple times throughout the year.

2. Lectures

An interactive comprehension quiz helps students check their understanding of key points covered in the articles and other documents.
Vocabulary helps facilitate and enrich students' reading.
|
|
Other features on the Lectures page:
- The poll A votre avis ... stimulates student reflection on cultural differences and encourages students to make comparisons between their own culture and francophone culture as they give their opinion on a question related to the theme and then view the responses of their peers. Poll questions also prime students for a lively exchange of ideas during class discussions!
- En savoir plus (not pictured) suggests further sites for students to explore.
- Students are reminded to post their reaction to the readings on the class discussion board - an opportunity to share information and opinions with their peers through informal writing.
