Bienvenue à AP French Online !

To get off to a good start on September 2nd, there are a few important things you need to do in August. Read the instructions below, and complete the pre-work tasks carefully.

By the time you have finished these tasks, you will know your way around the AP French Online class pages and be ready for a year of immersion in French!

When you have finished all of the pre-work tasks, please fill out and submit the pre-work checklist at the bottom of this page.

You will have to be registered for the course and have a class password in order to complete most of the pre-work assignments! To finalize your registration, just click register online on the top of the Information Desk page, submit the registration form, and make your tuition payment on the Paypal Website.

Set-up tasks

A new lesson will be posted on the class Website every two weeks. The Bienvenue link on the AP French Online home page (page de garde in French) will always take you to the first page of the current lesson. Click here to try it now: http://www.e-vocable.com

You will be able to complete most of the tasks below by following links on either the Bienvenue page or the Information Desk page.

  • Order all required books and materials for AP French Online. (See ordering books in the left sidebar of the Information Desk page.)

  • Carefully read the précis technique. (Link in the left sidebar of the page Bienvenue) Be familiar with the topics addressed in the précis technique so you know what help is available should a problem come up.

  • Practice typing accents on your computer. For help, see the précis technique.

  • Register as a user of the class discussion board forums & dialogues. (Directions in the précis technique)  Please be patient after you register, you will only be able to access the forums once the administrator has confirmed your username!

  • Download and install Skype. Register as a Skype user. (Carefully follow the instructions in the précis technique)
  • Make sure recent versions of Quicktime, Realplayer, and Windows Media Player are installed on your computer. You will need each of these programs to listen to various sound files assigned in AP French Online. (Links to download these programs in the précis technique.)

  • Make a practice sound recording and send it to the teacher. Again, you'll find help in the précis technique.

French language review

A new lesson will be posted on the class Website every two weeks. From e-vocable.com, clicking on Bienvenue will always take you to the first page of the current lesson.

From the first page of the lesson, click on the orange itineraire button to read the weekly schedule of assignments. (Notice that for the first two lessons, an English translation is provided so you can check your understanding of the instructions.)

  • The currently posted lesson, La famille en France, is the first lesson of the course. Practice reading and following the itineraire in order to become familiar with the main pages of the class site. Enjoy perusing the lesson to see where each of the links will take you!

  • Read the schéma du cour in French. (Follow the link in the left sidebar of the Bienvenue page.) Check your comprehension by reading the English version, course syllabus. (Link in the left sidebar of the Information Desk page)

  • Read the messages posted by the teacher in the forum de la part du prof - important! on the forums & dialogues page.

  • Review your French verbs: Take 15 minutes a day through the month of August to practice spelling and conjugating verbs. Follow the instructions on the page tout sur les devoirs. (Activity no. 1 under la préparation libre à l'examen.)

  • Download the Word document form you will use to submit all drafts and final revisions of your essays: Go to the rédactions page of the current lesson, & click on the red arrow after the text: Téléchargez le formulaire. (link is in the box with the red 1. on the left of the page) Open this Word document and save it in your computer. Now, look over the document. You should see six different colors - one is dark gray - under the heading Légende in the right hand column of the form. If not, post a message to the instructor in the forum questions pour la prof on the forums & dialogues page.

  • Review your autobiographical paragraph after the teacher has returned it to you. He may have made a few small "technical" changes - grammar corrections! Review these changes, then post your revised paragraph in the forum je vous présente... of the class discussion board forums & dialogues. (Click on the name of the forum - je vous présente... - to open it. Select start new topic and make your name the subject.)
